Not Long Now - Last Minute Gifts For Father's Day

Let’s face it, last year was a wash out. The pandemic meant we couldn’t celebrate the occasions we would normally spend with family and friends. Big Birthdays were reduced to a bit of cake and important anniversaries went by, absent of anything momentous. It’s hardly surprising then, that this year we are all feeling the urge to mark the special dates in our calendars with zealous celebrations and treat loved ones to something extra special. YOLO has never been more prevalent than in 2021.

Incase you have been hiding under a rock and were unaware, Father’s Day (20th June) is just around the corner and this year in particular, offers the perfect occasion to honour the huge contribution that our dads (or any other father figure), have made to our lives. Let this year be the year we embarrass dad with the abundance of attention and  adoration he deserves.

If you are looking for the perfect gift for dad this June, then why not consider a watch? Worn on the wrist everyday, they are a deeply personal gift and constant reminder of how much we care. In fact, in various parts of the world, gifting a watch is considered particularly significant, for example in Russia it denotes that you wish the recipient a prolonged life full of happiness - what a fantastic sentiment for Father’s Day!

Here in the second instalment of our Father’s Day gift guide, we have selected special timepieces worthy of the main man in your life and by choosing something so special, you are sure to leave him speechless.

The Citizen Chronograph Eco-Drive - R.A.F Red Arrows - Skyhawk A.T

Budget - Low    Watch Style - Vintage Sports

This Men's Citizen Skyhawk A-T model is fully loaded with features, designed for pilots, thanks to its Radio-Controlled Atomic Clock Synchronisation Technology, this watch keeps incredibly precise time. The movement of this watch is remarkable - the Eco-Drive technology means the watch rarely needs a battery, and charges from all available light, natural or artificial. The dial is laid out in large digital sections with backlight and luminous hands with subdials for constant UTC time and home time zones.

The RAF Red Arrows Edition insignia is engraved on the case back whilst its official logo appears on the dial. This watch is aesthetically substantial yet is surprisingly light on the wrist making it a superb daily wearer and with its black and red colour wave, it's the perfect combination of style as well as substance. A great value watch that holds its own in the style stakes, sporty dad will love this!

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King - Reference 116900 - Unworn and Still Fully Stickered, with Box and Papers

Budget - High   Watch Style - Modern Sports

Take to the skies with this Rolex Air-King, combining the best of both worlds with robust functionality and beautiful design. The oversized 24-hour white Arabic numeral minute plots contrast with the striking jet black dial and the punchy green and yellow logo is instantly recognisable - in fact, the Air-King is now the only piece from the brand to have the crown logo and the 'Rolex' title set in two different colors. Understated bling is where this one's at, an everyday wearer with Rolex finesse, perfect for the dad with a taste for the finer things in life.

Smiths V308 - 8 Day Dashboard Clock and Mission Timer - From RAF V-Bombers - c.1954

Budget - Low   Watch Style - Military

Is your dad a keen historian? If so, he will be blown away by this incredibly rare Smiths 1954 R.A.F Aircraft 8 Day Dashboard Clock from On Board Valiant, Victor and Vulcan, 'V Bombers', with the Jaeger LeCoultre 'Patent' 8 Day Movement. These 8 Day Clocks were fitted into early V Bombers and other British Royal Air Force aircraft around the early 1950s. When the planes were either decommissioned or scrapped these clocks would, with other pieces of vital equipment, be removed and have subsequently become quite desirable and very collectible - they are often repurposed as either, desk, wall, or even dashboard clocks in classic cars - unless your dad has a V Bomber to restore that is....Whatever he chooses to use it for, it will be a cherished gift for years to come.

Enicar Sport - Steel Cased Watch with Rare
Enamel Dial - c.1940s

Budget - Low   Watch Style - Military/Tool

A charming and striking 1940s Enicar Sport, with a signed white enamel dial which is quite rare and unusual for this period and brand!  This Enicar Sport watch has a pretty unique feature that is still only prevalent on more high end watches, however, is unusual in this case as enamel dials were rarely used after the 1930s for a mid range watch such as this one. This watch would make a superb addition to any collection as well as being great for everyday wear.

We purchased this watch from a pretty serious military watch collector and enthusiast who had owned the watch for a good number of years and says that when he originally purchased the watch from an auction, he recalls it arriving with a very old swing tag tied to one of the lugs on the watch with string and the label had the words "Bletchley" on it but he cannot recall exactly what else it said and the label was unfortunately misplaced and then lost over the years! So we will probably never know if this watch was possibly worn by a "code breaker" as a timepiece, still, an interesting thought!

OMEGA SPEEDMASTER PROFESSIONAL MOONWATCH

Budget - Medium   Watch Style - Modern Sports

As the saying goes, all watch collections worth their salt should boast at least one Moonwatch. Having been part of all six lunar missions and endorsed by NASA as the first watch on the moon, the iconic Speedmaster family illustrates Omega’s adventurous spirit perfectly. This Omega Speedmaster Professional Men’s Moonwatch earns its iconic status with a statement black dial, a small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute sub-dial, 12-hour sub-dial and a central chronograph hand, all protected by a resilient hesalite crystal lens. Omega Deville 18k Gold Dress Watch

Budget - Medium   Watch Style - Vintage Dress

There are various noteworthy Omega watches with a classic look and many of them can be found in the De Ville family. The De Ville was first introduced as part of the Seamaster collection around 1960, however, in 1967 Omega decided that the De Ville was to become a range in it's own right. The design team came up with an individual look for the collection which came to embody style and sophistication in a move right away from its original beginnings as a Seamaster. This stunning example is a fine vintage, just like your dad no doubt!
