Omega first began applying "Genève" to the dials of their dressier 30mm watches in 1953. This was in honour of their 30mm calibre that set records at the Geneva Observatory. By 1967 the name began to be applied to models throughout Omega's range, such as the Omega Dynamic, that were produced in large volumes. 

What's on Offer

This rare 1965 Omega Geneve boasts a black "technical" or "scientific" dial with red crosshairs - a beautifully minimalistic dial design that is rather unusual to come across. The dial has been well preserved and bears its original lume on the hour plots which have aged to a pale yellow, there are also remnants of lume on the pencil hands. The red crosshair is a striking detail and corresponds with the red Omega logo. The dial is encapsulated under shatterproof Plexiglas which is encased in stainless steel. Another point of interest about this watch - it has the Portuguese import stamp (also known as the Portuguese dent) which was usually placed on the upper side of the left upper lug. This location was chosen so the tax inspectors could easily see the importation tax had been paid. You learn something new every day! 

This is an interesting and stylish watch with a slight nod to elements of Bauhaus design. It looks great on the wrist and is running well.
