Smiths - British Army Issued W10 Wristwatch - Issued 1968
A Fantastic Example of a Smiths W10, British Army Issued Watch - Made in England, c.1968 - Caseback Markings: W10/6645-99-961-4045 1249/68
Smiths was the last surviving British watch company to manufacture watches entirely in the UK. Smiths supplied watches to the Ministry of Defence from the 1950s until the company was closed in the 70s. The W10 aviators' timepieces are the most iconic of these, being issued from the late 60s until the company closed.
What’s On Offer
This is a fine example of the Smith's W10 watch in well-preserved condition with a rich black dial and crisp white Arabic numerals. The hour plots and the hands still boast their original lume and it has aged beautifully to a charming vanilla colour. The dial bears the Smiths signature, the Tritium T and the military pheon which denotes it as property of the MoD. There is an outer minute track which has remained intact, the Smiths 'Made in England' note and the dial is completed by a central seconds hand. The case and lugs are also in good shape and the caseback bears the original military engravings one would expect to see which read: W10/6645-99-961-4045 1249/68 and the pheon is also present. These watches are really collectable, have a superb price point and look great on the wrist.
