Cyma SA is a Swiss manufacturer of luxury wristwatches, founded by brothers Joseph and Theodore Schwob in 1862. By 1908, Cyma was advertising the resilience of their timepieces when exposed to electricity, magnetism and varying temperatures. The company is currently owned by Stelux International, Ltd.
What’s On Offer
The Cymaflex model was introduced by Cyma in 1939 as a protective device fitted over the balance to help absorb shocks, in a similar way to the Incabloc and Kif systems. This is a particularly nice example of the Cymaflex with a very well-preserved dial furnished with gold-coloured applied furniture including arrowhead hour markers, quarter Arabic numerals, leaf hands and a sub-seconds recessed counter at 6 o'clock. The Cyma signature sits at 12 o'clock and corresponds with the signed crown. This is a presentation watch and as such, it has a beautiful engraving on the case back, addressed to a T.C. Hartland, as a thank you for the longevity of service at 'VIGZOL' from 1936 to 1957.
The Vigzol Oil Co Ltd, was founded in 1919 by Percy Bilton, the first works were situated at Ormskirk, a market town in Lancashire. The foundation stones of Vigzol were hard work and enterprise backed by an honest desire to provide better and better lubricants. No foreign capital or interests have ever been associated with Vigzol. The company developed its sales in one field—agriculture—to the extent that it claims to lubricate the majority of farm machinery. You will find a book from Vigzol (As per our photos) which will accompany the watch when sold.
This watch is in beautiful condition and has obviously been well taken care of over the years - it would make the perfect gift for somebody with an interest in agriculture etc as well as being perfect for any vintage watch lover.
