Hamilton W10 Army Military Watch with W10 - 6645-99 Markings, Issued 1973

The Hamilton W10 succeeded the earlier Smiths production pieces and preceded the CWC production pieces. The W10 was originally requested by and supplied to, the Army between 1973 and 1976. With the watch on offer here being issued in 1973. The ‘T’ marking on the dial stands for tritium, the original 1970s material used to make dials luminescent. A monobloc case construction in the tonneau shape is a classic feature of these watches and have proved so popular and in demand that Hamilton has reissued the watch for the consumer market and they are now available as the “Khaki Aviation” watch but without the circle T & broad arrow applications on the dial.

What’s On Offer

Hamilton - a (British Army) military issue wristwatch. The watch back is marked /I\ - 523-8290 W10-6645-99 - 14428/73, making it a 1973 watch that still looks like it hasn’t been worn apart from an odd mark, still retaining its brushed finish and sharp edges! The watch has a “hacking feature” caliber 649 movement housed inside a monocoque tonneau-shaped stainless steel case.

The watch is in amazing condition for a watch that is now over 47 years old! This cushion-shaped case is always very enjoyable and comfortable to wear and the dial design is one that many have used but is timeless and has a real military vibe to it. Arabic indices complete the legible nature to the dial, the applications are sharp and original whilst the lume is again original and remarkable in condition.

Inside the case lies the ETA 649 movement which has been serviced by the military specialist watchmaker John Senior in January 2021 and is fit and waiting for its new owner to enjoy for many more years to come. Pictured with a NATO but equally great on a leather strap and can also look individual on a Bonklip style bracelet, these military watches make for an affordable way to get into genuine military issued watches and with the prices increasing for originals like the present watch, now is the time to buy at this price point. Should you want a Bonklip bracelet, drop us a message and we’d happily help supply a period correct example for this watch.
