A well preserved World War 2, Army Time Piece, (A.T.P), wristwatch. There were a number of manufacturers of these watches and this particular one was manufactured by Grana of Switzerland, one of the smaller manufacturers so you likely won’t see many of these for sale, just like the Dirty Dozen, Grana’s, but not luckily at the same price level.

This WW2 watchcase is nickel-chrome plated over brass, and this one as you will see from our photographs is in great overall condition compared with others we have seen for sale. 

The simple clean dial has typical military style Arabic numerals and nicely aged Radium plots to mark the hours and subsidiary seconds at 6 0'clock. The flat tube shaped hands is again typical of this kind of watch and are a fabulous colour.

As part of the MoD specifications these watches were classed in the time as waterproof and as such it has a screw in back which bears the broad arrow and the “ATP 132137” designation. There are no serious blemishes on the back either and all the MoD markings are still very crisp and visible as we bought the watch from a military collector and we know he had an extensive collection that was predominantly unworn for a good number of years.    

Inside the case is a calibre KF320 movement with 15 jewels that were made by the company Kurth Frères that later becomes Certina and then is ultimately taken over by The Swatch Group. When Kurth Frères was first established they were mainly a movement and supplies company and then in 1906 they manufactured there first watch entirely and started the brand Grana. The movement was used in various brands and models including this Grana in the guise of a manual winding Incabloc watch movement with Sub-Seconds dial.  

Grana were not by any means the largest supplier of any watches to the MoD so they are pretty rare so be quick especially as this one appears in such good condition.
