Doxa Automatic Sub 300 T Professional Divers' Watch ***SOLD***
Probably one of the most influential watches of all time in the field of dive watches, this Doxa Automatic Sub 300 T is an admirable addition to any watch collection, having marked the start of ground-breaking technological innovation in underwater wristwatch technology.
- This is the second generation of the 300 T with a thinner case and regular instead of screw-down crown.
- Vivid orange dial with oversized hour batons and large tritium inserts for superb legibility.
- Revolutionary thick stainless steel case which was waterproof to 300 meters.
Having created the Doxa 300 in 1966, Doxa quickly looked to making improvements to the already popular watch that had begun to change the game in terms of technological approaches to Divers’ watches. The watch was streamlined somewhat, seeing improvements to the case and dial which gained tritium luminescent inserts in the hands and batons, leaving us with the Sub 300 T (T being tritium). For more information on the evolution and provenance of this watch, see the links below.
The case on this Doxa Sub 300 T is of solid stainless steel construction, with a push down crown, screw-in back which bears Synchron’s logo and a unidirectional divers’ bezel. This bezel is marked with the US Navy no-decompression dive table depth limits, designed to indicate how long a diver can spend at a certain depth and keep track of dive times. There is also an inner fixed bezel which serves as both a minute tracker and a reference point for the outer rotating divers’ bezel. The beads of rice bracelet features Doxa’s pioneering ‘flex-buckle’ allows for comfortable wear on any sized wrist with or without a wetsuit on, thanks to the adjustable ratchet and spring loaded link ends.
Doxa pioneered the use of tritium on such a large scale on the diving watch scene, this being one of their first models to contain tritium as a means of improving underwater legibility. Both the oversized hour batons and the ‘dwarf’ hour and minute hands each house a large strip of the luminescent material, making for a vivid, contrasting and legible dial even at more extreme depths.
