Vintage Metro "Snail Shell" Telemetre Chronograph - Valjoux 22 - c.1940s
A Beautiful Vintage Metro Watch with a Gilt Gloss Breguet Telemetre 'Snail Shell' Dial in Black, c.1940s
What’s On Offer
This stunning Metro boasts a beautiful black “Snail-Shell” (you can see the central spiral mimicks a snail shell) Telemetric Dial - a printed scale that's used to calculate distance based on time. The Telemeter is a function that measures the approximate distance from the point of measurement to an event such as a lightning storm. It uses the difference between the speed of sound and the speed of light to estimate the distance to an event that generates both light and sound simultaneously.
So! Besides being a rather charming-looking watch, it would also be fairly useful should you find yourself in the eye of a storm! The gilt gloss dial, whilst looking rather complicated, is actually rather lovely, with beautiful Breguet numerals and elegant syringe hands. The chrome-topped case does show a little wear but nothing of any concern - on a watch from the 1940s we would expect a little character! At 36mm, this watch is rather meaty for its time, but of course, is mid-size by today's standards. It does, however, wear very well on the wrist and would be a joy to any vintage collector.
