A Really Nice Example of a Hamilton W10-6645-99 Issued in 1973 with Stunning Black Dial and Evenly Aged Vanilla Lume.

The Hamilton Watch Company is a Swiss manufacturer of wrist watches based in Bienne, Switzerland. Founded in 1892 as an American firm, the Hamilton Watch Company ended American manufacture in 1969. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the Hamilton Watch Company eventually became integrated into the Omega Swatch Group, the world's largest watch manufacturing and marketing conglomerate.

During World War II, production of consumer watches was stopped, with all watches manufactured being shipped to troops. More than one million watches were sent overseas. As one of the leading companies in the American watch industry, and having already had experience supplying the military, Hamilton was a natural choice to manufacture timepieces for the armed forces, even after the war had ended.

Hamilton produced W10 watches for the British Military between 1973 and 1976, and it is estimated that around 30,000 were produced during these three years. W10 was a general code assigned to a certain type of equipment from the MoD meaning other brands such as CWC were also tasked with producing them as well.

What's on Offer

The watch back is marked /I\ 22186/73 and is in unbelievably good condition - it hardly looks worn with sharp Arabic numerals and a blemish-free stark black dial.

Having retained its original brushed finish and sharp edges, the plexiglass is unmarked and there are no visible blemishes to speak of on the case or case back. The original lume is intact and has evenly aged to a beautiful vanilla hue on both the hour plots and hands.

A real stylish wearer with the added bonus of being steeped in military history, we have paired this watch with a NATO strap but it would look equally great on a leather strap or a Bonklip style bracelet for a more individual look. These watches make for an affordable way to get into genuine military issued watches and with the prices increasing for originals like this example, now is the time to buy.
