Founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot, Zenith quickly became one of Switzerland’s most innovative watch manufacturers. Known for producing in-house movements, the brand earned a reputation for precision, winning numerous chronometry awards. Zenith reached a major milestone in 1969 with the El Primero, one of the first automatic chronograph movements. Despite the quartz crisis, Zenith preserved its mechanical expertise and remains highly respected for technical excellence.

What’s on Offer

A bold and unmistakably 1970s take on the Zenith ethos, this Defy Automatic is all about durability, design, and presence. Known as one of Zenith’s most robust lines, the Defy was built to live up to its name—offering resilience wrapped in distinctive styling.

The angular stainless steel case flows seamlessly into the original Zenith-signed Gay Frères bracelet, giving it that sought-after integrated look collectors love. The dial is equally striking, with a smoky grey tone, crosshair detail, and a contrasting horizontal strip that frames the date window beautifully.

Inside, the Zenith calibre 2552 PC automatic movement delivers reliable performance, backed by Zenith’s reputation for precision engineering. The screw-down caseback reinforces its tool-watch credentials, staying true to the Defy’s rugged DNA.

The case shows light signs of wear consistent with age, with some softening to the brushed surfaces, but it remains strong overall. The dial presents well, with minor ageing that adds to its vintage appeal.

A brilliant example of Zenith’s experimental era—distinctive, wearable, and full of character.
