Smiths is one of the most celebrated British watchmakers, with strong ties to both civilian and military history. Founded in the 19th century, Smiths rose to prominence in the mid-20th century, supplying reliable, domestically produced timepieces at a time when Swiss imports dominated. Their most famous contribution came through military service: Smiths supplied robust, no-nonsense wristwatches to the British Armed Forces. These pieces, often with black dials and luminous markers, are now highly prized by military watch collectors.

We are delighted to offer this superb Smiths W10, issued in 1970, and one of the very last truly British-made military watches. The crisp black dial features bold Arabic numerals, luminous hour plots, and the classic broad arrow denoting MoD property. Its sword hands retain their vintage lume, now aged to a soft yellow, adding real character. Powered by the reliable Smiths Calibre 60466E manual-wind movement, it’s housed in a sturdy stainless steel case with full military engravings. A rare British military icon.
