In the early 20th century, doctors' dial watches were designed with a large seconds subdial, usually at the 6 o’clock position. This feature allowed physicians to easily measure a patient’s pulse over timed intervals, typically 15, 30, or 60 seconds. The enlarged subdial improved visibility and accuracy, making these watches essential tools in medical practice before the advent of digital instruments. We are delighted to offer this elegant 1930s Art Deco tank-style wristwatch in 9k gold. The case was crafted by the renowned Swiss casemaker C.R. Spillmann & Co., bearing the internal reference 136 and engraved 561456 on the caseback. A hallmark with the letters A (symbol) M denotes Glasgow assay, confirming its British market origins and gold content. This fine Spillmann case frames a striking Deco dial, making it a wonderful example of period design.

Unbranded yet meticulously crafted, this piece captures a unique blend of utility and elegance, making it a compelling addition for collectors and enthusiasts of vintage horology.

NB: This watch is offered for sale as seen, as the watches service history is unknown and we are selling it on behalf of a watch collector's family who have asked us to help sell an entire collection. As there are quite a few watches to dispose of, the clients do not wish to spend unnecessary money on servicing each watch before its sold so we have priced the watches to reflect it being sold un-serviced and without a warranty but it can be arranged with our watchmaker at an additional cost if you wish.
