An excellent 2009 Rolex Submariner Date 16610LN with Box and Papers

The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1954 and has since become one of the longest-running dive watch lines, evolving alongside advances in modern diving technology while retaining its instantly recognisable design.

This 2009 Submariner Date 16610LN is a classic example of one of Rolex's most iconic modern diving watches.

It also represents something of a transitional piece. Pre-2009 models lacked the repeated Rolex and serial number engravings along the rehaut (the inner steel ring between the dial and crystal), while subsequent generations introduced ceramic bezels in place of the traditional aluminium insert. The serial number can be seen engraved at 6 o’clock on the rehaut, making this an interesting snapshot in the evolution of the Submariner.

The matte black dial provides a stark contrast to the white-lumed hands and hour markers, while the date aperture at 3 o’clock is magnified by the cyclops lens over the sapphire crystal. The dial is framed by a unidirectional stainless steel bezel with a serrated edge and black aluminium insert, and the watch retains its original translucent bezel protector.

Aside from a few minor marks on the side, the 41mm stainless steel case is generally in a fantastic condition and has clearly been taken very good care of in its 17 year life. The design of the case itself may have contributed towards its preservation, as its crown guards and thick, sturdy lugs give the watch a robust profile.

The watch is powered by the automatic Rolex 3135 caliber movement with 31 jewels and a power reserve of around 48 hours. As a true dive watch, it is also water resistant to 300 meters/1,000 feet, as proudly advertised by the print on the dial. The stainless steel Oyster bracelet also features old-school, lightweight hollow links and a stamped deployment safety clasp.

This 2009 Submariner Date 16610LN is provided with its original box and papers, and is a fantastic example of a high-end, collectable dive watch with the added appeal of its transitional position in the Submariner's history.
