The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date made its debut in the mid-1950s. For some context, Rolex released the Datejust in 1945 and it came equipped with a 36 mm case whilst the Date sported a slightly smaller 34 mm case size. Rolex produces various sizes within the Datejust collection, but the brand's 34mm date-displaying watch is known simply as the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date.

This watch is beautiful on the wrist, a classic reference with an understated yet stylish presence, the quintessential dress watch in fact. The salmon dial (I prefer Rosé Blush, which might be my penchant for wine but I think it is a more accurate description of the colour) is in beautifully blemish-free condition and boasts applied hour plots and an applied coronet at 12.

The dial is completed by elegant hands, including a central seconds hand, and a date aperture at 3 o'clock, all encapsulated underneath Plexiglas and encased in stainless steel.

The smooth bezel is in nice shape as are the lugs with only light signs of general wear - not bad for a 60-year-old watch! It is paired with a handmade leather strap in tan with contrasting stitching which really brings out the colour of the dial. A Really beautiful watch offering a playful twist on a classic reference from Rolex.
