Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer - Reference 1016 - MK1 'Frogs Foot' Dial - c.1967
A Very Handsome Rolex Explorer Reference 1016 with Mark 1 Frog Foot Dial in Beautiful Condition With Attractive Lume, Dated to c.1967
What’s On Offer
The iconic Rolex Explorer 1016 needs little introduction and this 1967 example is in superb shape boasting a beautiful matt black dial with nicely aged lume which has turned an attractive pale butter colour, on both the hour plots and synonymous Mercedes hands. This reference is also affectionately referred to as the 'Frog Foot' dial as it bears a Rolex coronet that resembles the foot of a frog at 12 o'clock - as I have discovered over the years I have been writing about watches, the devil is in the detail and only the keenest of eyes will notice these minute nuances. The dial is encapsulated underneath shatterproof Plexiglas and encased in stainless steel with a smooth bezel. The case and lugs are in nice vintage condition, there are signs of wear but nothing of concern. We have paired this watch with a classic handmade leather strap which really brings out the warmth of the dial - a stylish combination without being ostentatious in the least.
