Record - A Calatrava Style Dress Watch in a Jumbo Case - circa.1950s - Model: 794
A Very Rare Vintage Record - Calatrava Style Dress Watch in a Jumbo Case (37mm) with Unusual Sunken Hour Markers and Beaded Minute Markers - circa.1950s - Model: 794
Founded in Tramelan, Switzerland, in 1903, The Record Watch Company moved its headquarters to Geneva in 1924. In 1961, a majority interest in the Record Watch Company was purchased by Longines. We believe this to be a very rare watch as we cannot find any other like it! It really is stunning and very elegant!
What’s On Offer
A pristine 'Jumbo' Calatrava chrome coated case and case back, the latter bearing simply a 794 marking - some slight scuffing on the caseback only to be expected given the age of the piece. The charming ivory satin dial with applied sunken steel markers showcases the unusual reverse arrow hands and beaded minute markers perfectly and really sets this watch apart from any similar counterparts of the time. The 'engraving/applying' style of both the beaded minute markers and the hour markers is something we have only ever seen on a vintage Patek Calatrava watch and gives real depth to the dial.
The watch wears superbly and with such generous proportions has a real contemporary edge. The simple design of the dial with brand signature at 12 o'clock and small seconds at 6 o'clock have carried this watch seamlessly through the decades. We have paired this watch with a Belgian handmade black leather strap with a steel pin buckle, and to be honest, it looks like a million dollars.
