An Omega Speedmaster Automatic Mk 4.5, Model Reference 176.0012 Caliber: 1045 17 Jewels Movement Number: 39187xxx (Box and Papers - Photos to Follow) Sold New in 1976

The Omega Speedmaster, an iconic chronograph, was first introduced in 1957 as part of Omega's "Professional" collection, intended for motorsport and automotive enthusiasts. Its precision and robust build quickly distinguished it. The Speedmaster gained global fame in 1965 when NASA qualified it for space missions, choosing it as the official timepiece for astronauts due to its resilience and accuracy under extreme conditions.

What's on Offer

The Omega Speedmaster 176.0012 is a distinguished timepiece that embodies the brand's legendary precision and robust design. This watch captures the spirit of the Speedmaster series while introducing unique elements. Encased in a solid, tonneau-shaped stainless steel case, it provides a distinctive, vintage appeal, reminiscent of the 1970s era. The case measures approximately 40mm in diameter, offering a substantial wrist presence without being overpowering.

The dial is intricately detailed, featuring a deep black background with contrasting white indexes, enhancing legibility. It hosts a day-date display alongside the traditional chronograph functionalities, powered by the Omega Caliber 1040 automatic movement—a testament to Omega's commitment to enduring quality and innovation.

Equipped with a tachymetric scale usually, this iteration displays a much rarer, telemeter scale on the dial's periphery. While a tachymeter measures the average speed of a moving vehicle, a telemeter has a markedly different function – it measures the distance between you and the target. The telemeter 1km is a much rarer version so this watch is quite the find!

You may note that the caseback of the watch displays a Seamaster emblem, this is because the Speedmaster was originally a diffusion line of the original Seamaster - it is the correct caseback and is referring to the water resistance of the case rather than the model name.
