Many thanks,

This Memomatic ref.166.072 was first introduced by Omega in 1969. There were many variants of this watch, in steel and gold cases on both bracelets and straps, and with different dials.

This particular watch, we have dated to c.1970 using the movement number 3133xxxx. For a watch from this period it has an impressively large stainless steel case, measuring just over 40mm in width excluding the crown. The steel case is still detailed with the original combination of satin and polished finishes as the watch remains original and unpolished which is rare in this day and age. There are odd marks and scratches that are commensurate with age but nothing too deep or of concern. The satin sunburst finish still showing very nicely.

The watch has many features including a superb water resistant, cushion shaped, solid steel case with original Omega signed crown and original alarm push button. Both buttons near mint in condition. The original two tone grey and black dial comprises, a matte chapter ring, applied white baton numerals with luminescent tips, luminescent hands, twin inner matte grey revolving discs for hour and minute alarm indication with date function which is all in superb untouched and original condition with a lovely colour and an even patina to all the tritium. All the orange markers/accents on the dial along with the centre second hand still retain there bright colour.

The armoured hesalite crystal is not original to the watch as far as we are aware as there is no Omega marking. The crystal is in generally good used condition showing some light marks and scratches in line with a used watch again nothing detrimental to the overall appearance of the watch.

The original steel Omega signed bracelet reference, 1170 with 618 end pieces is in fantastic used condition for a watch that is now over 46 years old. It shows light signs of wear and barely any stretch!

It’s original 19 jewel Omega automatic Calibre 980 movement is based on the the Lemania 2980 movement and those in the know will agree that the Lemania movements have a fantastic reputation and were used in various Omega models over the years. The Calibre 980 is pretty unique in that the automatic rotor provides power for both the time and alarm to function where other manufacturers had separate winders for each function. Another feature specific to this watch was the twin central dial discs which allowed the alarm time to be set in hours and minutes which made this feature much more accurate than the traditional single pointer found on other brands.

Besides the winding crown and the alarm button there is also a third button/pusher recessed in the case at 3 o’clock which allows the date to be quickly changed.

In conclusion this is a super sexy stainless steel Omega Memomatic wristwatch, Ref. 166.072, with an original black/grey dial, date aperture, alarm feature and Omega bracelet. The case is untouched and still with the original machine finish.

This Memomatic alarm watch is so cool. It dings away on your arm with a lovely mechanical buzz which you will also feel vibrating on your arm. It’s typically the smallest things that bring the biggest smile to your face and also a great piece of history.
