A Striking 1970s Omega Constellation F300hz 'Hummer' with Tuning Fork Movement, in Stunning Condition with Tonneau Case.

Nicknamed 'the hummer', the f300 movement was developed by ESA, an update by Max Hetzel, of the original Bulova tuning fork. ESA supplied these movements to many companies inc; Longines, IWC, Baume & Mercier, Tissot, Omega, etc…

Omega was their largest customer by far, all Omega movements have a gilt finish compared to the Geneve stripes of the other marques. The Omega f300 chronometers were tested to mechanical movement standards and passed with flying colours. In fact, this movement is considered by many to be the the “Rolls Royce” of tuning fork movements. According to many experts, they were some of the best movements ever made, which gives them intrinsic and horological value, ensuring their future collectibility.

Although widely considered more accurate than mechanical movements, tuning fork movements were quickly replaced by quartz movements, which became cheaper to produce.

What’s On Offer

This has to be the epitome of 1970s retro-cool. The tonneau case envelops the two-tone silver grey dial with its baton hour markers and framed date aperture at 3 o'clock. The chunky stick hands add a sporty feel with their buttery luminous inserts and the central seconds hand adds a pop of vibrant red to compliment the Omega emblem at 12 o'clock. This is underwritten by the Constellation signature which of course means this watch also bears the Constellation family's observatory emblem with the obligatory 8 stars to the caseback -  the bloodline also runs through to the Omega signed crown.

This watch has substantial proportions and wears as such on the wrist, however, it is also very comfortable and would make a very stylish everyday wearer with its striking and sporty aesthetic. It is in really nice original condition with only minor signs of general wear to the case and the dial is in superb shape. It is running well and emits the soothing hum these watches are synonymous with. A truly collectible piece with bags of charisma. We love it!
