OMEGA - An Air Ministry 6B/159 - Military Watch - Issued 1956
A Rare Omega 6B/159 in Superb Condition with Black Dial, Military Caseback Engravings (A.M. 6B/159 1039/56) and Attractive Lume.
In 1956, a large number of surplus 6B/159 pilot watches originating from WW2 were modified and re-issued to the RAF by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). They produced a new, stainless steel case which replaced the low-cost alloy cases with which the watches were ordered and allowed the RAF to keep using the high-quality movements.
What’s On Offer
The dial of this watch was replaced by the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) when the watch was fitted into its new case in 1956 and is in excellent condition, in fact, the whole watch has aged very well - the years have been kind with very few signs of wear and certainly nothing concerning. The hands have been painted with a luminous compound that remains in tantalisingly good condition and the Arabic numerals are brilliant white along with the minute track. The case looks to only minor signs of wear and the case back markings (A.M. 6B/159 1039/56) retain their integrity. This watch enjoys fairly substantial dimensions given its age and would be perfectly appropriate for everyday wear.
