Omega 53 Fat Arrow - Military Issued Watch - 1953
A Well Preserved Military Issued Omega 53 Fat Arrow in Original Condition with Original Military Engravings - 1953
The Omega ‘Fat Arrow’ is a British Air Ministry (RAF) issued wristwatch. Its official title, denoted inside the case back by Omega, is the 2777-1 SC. Manufactured to the precise specifications of the Air Ministry in 1952 and delivered only in 1953 for one year to the Royal Air Force. Hence they have acquired the nickname ’53 Fat Arrow’ or for the rare and original radium dials they were called the ’53 Thin Arrow’, (fuller explanation below)!
What’s On Offer
This watch is in really nice original condition with beautifully aged lume across the hour plots and hands which warm up the stark black dial. The bold Arabic numerals are still crisp as is the outer minute track. The fat arrow is of course present at 6 o'clock and to the caseback, there are further military hallmarks that read 6645101000 6B/542 10017/53 and of course, the military arrow is present again.
There are marks of wear visible on the dial but they are minimal and tell a story just as all marks of wear do on vintage watches and especially vintage military watches, and it takes nothing from the overall charm. A wonderful watch that is very collectable and would make a very attractive addition to any vintage or military collection.
