Mimo Watches, a brand that has carved a niche in horological history, began its journey in the early 20th century. Originating in Switzerland, a country renowned for its watchmaking prowess, Mimo quickly established itself as a reliable time-keeping name. The brand gained acclaim for its precision and innovative designs, qualities that resonated with a growing consumer base eager for high-quality wristwatches.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Mimo capitalized on the burgeoning popularity of wristwatches over traditional pocket watches. Their models often featured Art Deco designs, reflecting the era's aesthetic sensibilities. During the mid-20th century, Mimo's reputation flourished partly due to its association with the military; its robust and precise timepieces were favoured in demanding environments.

Eventually, Mimo became part of the Girard-Perregaux group, enhancing its global footprint. Today, the Mimo legacy continues to be celebrated by collectors and horology enthusiasts worldwide, who appreciate its blend of historical significance and craftsmanship.

What's on offer

This Mimo German military watch is a notable timepiece from the World War II period, specifically produced for the German Army, or "Deutsches Heer" (DH). Manufactured in the 1940s, this watch exemplifies the robust and functional design required for military operations.

The watch features a very similar dial to that of its British couterparts - the Dirty Dozen watches. The dial is matte black with bold Arabic numerals, a sub seconds dial at 6 o'clock and lumed syringe hands which has aged to a beautiful pumpkin colour.

The dial is encapsulated underneath a shatterproof acrylic crystal and is powered by the AS 1130 calibre which is known for its durability and precision. The watch is engineered to resist magnetic fields, a crucial feature for military personnel operating around electronic equipment. The case back is engraved with "D" followed by a 5524 and "H", this denotes its issue to the German Army.

The Mimo brand, associated with Girard-Perregaux, produced these watches to meet the stringent demands of military service. Today, the Mimo "DH" watch is highly sought after by collectors for its historical significance, distinctive military markings, and enduring craftsmanship.
