A Beautiful Vintage Longines Pointer Date Model Ref: 5412, Dated to the 1940s and Fitted with the Longines Calibre 12.68z (CLD)

Longines was founded by Auguste Agassiz and two other partners in Saint-Imier, Switzerland in 1832. Throughout its history, Longines has pioneered many advancements in watchmaking. In 1878 the company produced its first chronograph movement, the 20H. The movement was perfect for precise timing and the accuracy of their timepieces is something Longines prides itself on to this day. The Longines name and brand logo are currently the oldest still-in-use trademarks, unchanged since 1889.

What's On Offer

Vintage Longines is synonymous with in-house chronograph movements. One of their lesser-known complications is that of the pointer date as illustrated here today. Nicknamed “Pointer Date” due to its (originally) red-tipped hand pointing at the calendar printed on the outer ring of the dial. There is a date pusher at 2 o'clock, with a dent in the push guard so you can press it if needed. Some early examples of reference 5412 such as this one, have long, pointer hands that partially cover the date. This "issue" was rectified in later examples. This reference was only in production for a very short period of time from around 1944 to 1950 and as such, they are very difficult to find and very much sought after. This example is in original conditional with a beautiful warm patina to the dial, the hands have lost their lume somewhere along the line but at such an age, this simply adds to its charm. A beautiful watch with bags of charisma, you simply cannot go wrong with vintage Longines.
