A vintage Longines 9ct Gold Dress Watch, Cased c.1963 by David Shackman & Sons for Longines official UK importers Baume & Co.
Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz and is considered to be one of the oldest registered watch brands in the world. Longines is a company with a great history, the manufacturer has continued to charm watch enthusiasts from all over the globe. Having created so many historically important watches over the years with some of the finest movements ever to be put into watches, this heritage and importance has meant many vintage Longines models and watches have become highly sought after within the collecting community. Many attribute Longines as being one of the most important Swiss watch brands in existence. The brand is now part of the huge Swatch Group as of 1983 alongside Omega, Breguet, Blancpain, Tissot, Rado, Hamilton, Certina and Mido to name just a few.
What’s On Offer
The present model on offer is a rather elegant 9 carat yellow gold dress watch from circa 1963. The proportions of the watch are a joy to say the least. The baton indices start right to the outer edge of the dial which is uncommon and make this particular piece stand out, paired with the ultra fine bezel ring the watch dial is maximized size wise and makes the watch look and wear larger than it is! The sub seconds dial is also simple yet in keeping with the clean nature of the design of the watch overall and with pencil hands finishing the look of the watch off very well. The benefit of such a dress watch is the dimensions of the watch.
There are slight micro scratches to the case but considering the watches age, the overall condition is beautiful with very few marks visible to the eye. The dial is clean and again free from significant wear which is testament to Longines’ quality and longevity and shows that the watch has had a cherished and loved life. This cherished life is possibly enhanced by the fact the watch was presented to the original owner as it has a very discrete engraving to the caseback, which is not deep and says "F.W.H - 1922-1952". So presumably it was a watch presented for 30 years service!
Inside the elegant case beats the quality Longines calibre 370 movement with 17 jewels, which is running really well at between +/- 20 secs per day. So altogether a fantastic and elegant watch ready for you to wear.
