A new and unworn, modern re-issue, Eterna Model: 1939.41.46.1298 - nown as 'the big turtle' probably because of the case shapes. Czech Air Force '1939' Limited Edition. Sometimes the originals were also known as 'the big turtle' probably because of the case shapes. 

In approximately 1939 the Czechoslovak authorities approached Eterna, as military pilots needed a wristwatch made to precise specifications. As a result, Eterna obliged and produced for the Czech Air Force a piece, not dissimilar to the modern reproduction seen here. The originals still attract a great interest from collectors, which is why the company reissued it!

Some of the original 1939 models were engraved “Majetek Vojenské Správy,” which translated is roughly “military property”. Some, but not all of the original military issued watches also had a small set of crossed daggers engraved into one lug of the case.

The original watches were used by pilots and soldiers in the Czechoslovakian armed forces during WWII and are commonly known as the “Majetek”. To commemorate this chapter of military horological history, Eterna released a heritage piece, combining their rich history and experience in watchmaking with modern design and technological advancements, in a beautiful combination, polished and brushed stainless steel case with a scratch resistant and anti-glare sapphire crystal. 

Today the Eterna '1939' Heritage Military Limited Edition is made more for collectors than for military use and in so many ways, this reissue has a close resemblance to the original 1939 model. They share a very similar cushion-style case with round dial, the noticeable differences are the polished and brushed case and the very discrete date aperture above the 6 o’clock marker. 

Only 500 of these were ever made in steel, and so form part of a rare collectable set. All of these 500 pieces were sold out pretty quickly after there launch in about 2016! This is numbered 028x/1939.

What’s On Offer 

This particular example we have for sale is in new condition with no indication the watch has been worn. It comes with original (blank) warranty booklet, swing tag, cleaning cloth and the original inner and outer boxes. There are no marks or blemishes on the watch which is in 10/10, mint condition.
