Exceptional Vintage Seiko ‘UFO’ Chronograph Automatic Model Reference 6138-0011 with Calibre 6138 Day/Date Movement

Seiko was founded by Kintaro Hattori in Tokyo, Japan. The company initially started as a jewellery and watch shop, and over the years, it evolved into a major player in the watchmaking industry. Seiko has been at the forefront of watchmaking innovation. One of its significant contributions is the introduction of the quartz movement in 1969, which revolutionized the industry with the creation of the world's first quartz watch, the Seiko Astron.

 What's on Offer

This is the Seiko UFO Chronograph Automatic Model reference 1638-0011. The nickname UFO comes from its unique saucer-shaped case. It also has another nickname, the Yachtsman, this is because when it was first released to the Japanese market Seiko advertised it as being a Yachting watch but it did not catch on. The chronographs produced in the 1970s by Seiko featuring the 1638 and 1639 calibre movements like the Pogue and Kakume have become massively collectable in today's market for their unique and timeless design.

This particular Seiko is in sublime condition for its age, the stainless steel case presents itself with only very light signs of wear and has a nice brushed finish. To the right side of the case, you can see the distinct chronograph pushers and crown which compliment the design of the watch. Another nice addition to the watch is the increments of orange placed around the dial which gives it an awesome pop of colour.

Inside the watch is the reliable Seiko 1638 calibre movement with a day and date function. These movements are automatic and also manual wind allowing for precise time-keeping.
