A Charming Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Ref.5513,  c.1966, Serial No.1316xxx, A Classic No Date Reference, with Rolex Box and Booklet!

The Rolex Submariner was introduced at the 1954 Basel Fair and was one of the first truly water-resistant wristwatches. With the ability to withstand water pressure up to 200 meters in depth, it quickly became a popular watch among professional divers and water sportsmen. 

The Rolex Submariner 5513 was first released in 1962 and was manufactured until 1989. That's a production run of an impressive 27 years, and over the course of this period, relatively few changes were made, staying true to the watch's original design.

What’s On Offer 

A truly handsome example of the iconic 5513 reference from Rolex here, with a slightly later matte-finished black dial complete with original luminous zinc sulphide and tritium lume, triangular dot, and baton markers. It is likely, as a 1966 serial and case markings that the original dial in this watch would have been a 'meters first' dial, which was probably replaced at a service by Rolex back in the 1970s with the dial you see in our photos. Had the watch its original dial then the watch would be priced accordingly higher, so please bear this in mind!

The watch has the trademark Mercedes hands complete with intact lume, a protected screw-down signed crown, and a bi-directional rotations diving bezel fitted with the 15-minute marker insert. 

The aluminum bezel is showing only slight signs of wear at the pip, and to the edges of the glass, however, this is a vintage tool watch and at over 50 years old,  blemishes are par for the course and only add to what is already an incredibly charismatic watch. 

The case and lugs are sharp and in good shape, we have paired the watch with a VWS handmade brown leather strap which is very comfortable to wear on the wrist. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a beautiful watch with a sturdy pedigree from arguably the most notable watchmaker in existence. Don't pass it by.
