A Very Stylish Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date with a Brilliant White Roman Dial and Unusual Bamboo Bezel c.1998

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date made its debut in the mid-1950s. For some context, Rolex released the Datejust in 1945 and it came equipped with a 36mm case whilst the Date sported a slightly smaller 34mm case size. Whilst Rolex produces various sizes within the Datejust collection, the brand's 34mm date-displaying watch is known simply as the Rolex Date.

This is a beautiful example of the Rolex Date, a relatively modern take on a classic design with the brilliant white dial and Roman numerals. The hour plots also have applied polished metal markers with luminous pips for low visibility. The date wheel is encapsulated underneath the magnified glass, again for easier visibility. Elegant stick hands with luminous inserts and an applied Rolex coronet at noon, complete the dial. One of the more unique design elements of this watch is the rather unusual 'Bamboo' bezel, which is in superb condition and finishes the watch off perfectly. The overall condition is excellent, there are signs of wear but they are minimal and the watch wears beautifully on the wrist and appears larger than its 34mm as you can see in the photographs. The watch is powered by the 3035 which is considered one of the best and most reliable mechanical calibers ever made by Rolex. This a wonderful and seldom-seen take on this popular reference that really should get more press!
