A Superb Vintage Rolex GMT Master Pepsi with Aluminium Bezel, Model ref: 1675, Issued in 1968, an Iconic and Collectible Watch

Over the years Rolex has produced several versions of the GMT Master, notably, the most well-known of which have been affectionally nicknamed after famous sodas and drinks – ‘Pepsi’ (bright red and blue), ‘Coke’ (dark red and black) and ‘Root Beer’ (brown and gold) and more recently the Starbucks and the Sprite! 

What’s On Offer 

Released in 1954, the original GMT Master was model No 6542 which featured a Pepsi bezel insert made from the all-new wonder material, Bakelite. Bakelite wasn't around for long as it had a tendency to crack and so was replaced by an aluminium bezel insert in 1956. 

Here we have the most iconic reference of the vintage GMT Masters - the 1675 reference was introduced in 1959 and produced all the way through until 1980. This is a superb example from c.1968, (watch only) of the 1675 with a fantastic Pepsi bezel which has been very well preserved and only has light signs of wear. The dial looks well in rich black with creamy lume plots and corresponding Mercedes hands and is completed by a date aperture at 3 o'clock underneath a cyclops for easy visibility. 

The case and lugs are still in fairly good shape, but the Oyster bracelet has suffered a little more wear - this watch hales from 1968 so is well past 50 years old. We prefer to keep watches in their original condition, however, if you would prefer to have this watch polished we can of course organise this for you. The watch has a small personal engraving on the caseback - it was clearly a much-cherished gift at some point. 

This is a superb vintage Rolex with icon status in the horology world, the box and papers have been lost along the way which is a shame, however, it's still a beautiful watch of superb vintage. Very much a collector's piece.
