1945 saw the birth of the Datejust, the first self‑winding wrist chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. A watch of great distinction, the Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee bracelet created especially for it and a fluted bezel, making it immediately recognisable as a Rolex Datejust. With its timeless aesthetics, functions and rich history, the Datejust is a watchmaking icon and one of the brand's most recognizable watches.

You simply cannot go wrong with a classic steel Datejust, and this is a particularly nice example with a beautiful blemish-free silver sunburst dial. The applied furniture adds elegance and opulence with graceful stick hands boasting luminous inserts and baton hour markers with luminous pips. The dial is encapsulated underneath Plexiglas which is in excellent condition and, sports a cyclops over the quickset date aperture at 3 o'clock.

This watch features a quick set date feature which means that the date can be set independently from the timekeeping hands. Conversely, on a non-quickset Datejust, the minute and hour hands have to be advanced past midnight to change the numeral in the date window.

The engine-turned, stainless steel fluted bezel is in nice shape as is the signed crown, case and jubilee bracelet with folding clasp. A beautiful watch which is running well and keeping accurate time, and, it is supplied with its original box and papers from 1984 - a very good buy, especially if this is your year of birth!
