Exceptional Vintage Buren Dive Watch Dating to the 1960s with Tremendous Black Dial

Buren Watches, renowned for their precision and elegance, boast a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Established in 1877 by Léon Breitling in Buren, Switzerland, the company initially focused on producing pocket watches. However, their innovative spirit led them to venture into wristwatches as the demand for portable timekeeping devices grew. In 1919, Buren Watches partnered with movement manufacturer Aegler to develop and produce high-quality movements.

This collaboration resulted in the creation of some of the world's thinnest and most accurate watch movements at that time. Over the years, Buren Watches gained recognition for their exceptional craftsmanship and technological advancements. In 1966, they introduced the world's first automatic micro-rotor movement—a breakthrough in watchmaking history. The brand continued to evolve and innovate until it was acquired by Hamilton Watch Company in 1966.

What’s on Offer

A superb mid to late 1960s Buren divers watch in a polished stainless steel case with a black bi-rotational bezel. Very clear black dial with luminous Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 positions luminous batons at the other hour positions and a date setting at 3 o’clock. There are also 24-hour number markers inside/below the 12-hour markers. This watch has a robust Calibre ST96 also known as an FHF 96, mechanical hand wind movement with 17 jewels. Stainless steel hour, minute and seconds hands all with fantastic luminous inlays that have aged wonderfully and even.

This watch is not the typical looking chunky watch normally associated with divers watches. Overall the watch is in very good condition for a 1960’s "tool" watch.
