Eve - A 9ct Yellow Gold Ladies Cocktail Watch - circa. 1906-7
A Swiss Made, Gold, Ladies, Cocktail Dress Watch, Hallmarked Glasgow c.1906/1907 with Case Makers marks For James Weir of Glasgow. Hallmarked 9ct Gold.
A very classy and elegantly designed 9ct gold women’s cocktail watch. With a nicely detailed and crafted bezel and a shell like textured dial. Featuring grand Roman numeral indices, this cocktail watch exudes the Gatsby period and style. The hallmark of opposed F’s means this particular watch was crafted or imported in Glasgow and further research of this piece puts its origin to a Glasgow retailer James Weir. The watchmaker and retailer James Weir dates back to 1839, James originally worked as a railway porter whilst earning the money to train as a watchmaker.
What's on offer
The overall condition of the watch is very good. The detailing on the case has not diminished and retains its character whilst the dial has stood the test of time and remains both legible but elegant at the same time. The Roman numeral indices are again striking and read nicely. The sub seconds dial really works on this piece as it means the dial proportions aren’t compromised. The blued steel hands appear to be original, the added splash of the blued hands again works nicely and in our opinion gives the watch an increased desirability.
