c.1966, A rare Rolex Explorer Super Precision 5500, 34mm Case. Serviced by Rolex 2014

A 1966 Rolex Explorer 5500 that has the same model reference as the 1957 Airking (they shared a 34mm case). It's a highly collectible Rolex Explorer reference. The jet black dial has a white outer tracking ring and oversized Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9, with an inverted triangle at 12, making it a very clear-cut and legible dial. The combination of these functional elements with the Mercedes hour hand and lollipop seconds hand makes for a stunning watch. It bears 'Super Precision', indicative of the 1530 automatic movement within. 

What's on offer

This specimen is in great shape, having been well preserved and cared for and we suspect only occasionally worn since service! This Explorer went into production in 1966 (dated by serial number). The case, bracelet, and glass are in great condition, with only the most superficial signs of wear visible. Thankfully, the watch has been inspected, appraised, cleaned, and serviced by Rolex (March 2014) so you can be assured it must have started off life as an Explorer and NOT an Air-King! Having been worn sparingly since the £665 service back in 2014 this watch is in excellent working order and is demonstrably genuine and original. Rolex has provided a signed service card and receipt of this service, as well as a Rolex green velvet carry pouch and a polystyrene delivery box, all included with this sale. The watch is sold with a 12-month warranty from VWS.
