Longines, a beacon of Swiss horology, has been synonymous with precision and elegance since its inception in 1832. Founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Longines holds the oldest registered logo for a watch company—a winged hourglass emblem that signifies enduring quality. In the late 19th century, Francillon revolutionized watchmaking by centralizing production into one factory in Les Longines, Saint-Imier. This beautiful Longines dress watch is the perfect all-rounder as far as a watch for every occasion goes. At 38.5mm it is way bigger than most watches of its time (1940s) and rather contemporary look given its practical yet beautiful Bauhaus-esque styling. If it weren't for the spattering of patina across the dial, it could very well be mistaken for a more modern watch as we know, styles come and go and come back again! As previously mentioned, the dial offers a very distinct nod to the Bauhaus movement with practicality and beauty perfectly combined. The simplicity of the thin line hour plots and the quarter Arabic numerals correspond with the super slim hands on the central pinion and a recessed subdial at 6 o'clock completes the picture. The case and lugs are crafted from beautiful 18ct gold and remain very well preserved. This is a charming vintage watch from Longines, running well and keeping good time, it is sure to bring much joy for many years to come.
