A Very Funky and Collectable Looking, Hamilton A-595 Dateline Automatic Watch With Unusual Ellipse Shaped Case, Dated to c.1972

The Hamilton Watch Company is a Swiss manufacturer of wrist watches based in Bienne, Switzerland. Founded in 1892 as an American firm, the Hamilton Watch Company ended American manufacture in 1969. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the Hamilton Watch Company eventually became integrated into the Swatch Group, the world's largest watch manufacturing and marketing conglomerate.

Hamilton introduced the Dateline series of watches in 1963. The lineup included automatic as well as manual wind movements, but all models had a calendar complication. Made for just one year in 1972, the Hamilton Dateline A-595 boasts a Swiss-made Hamilton caliber 820 automatic movement.

What’s On Offer

Hailing straight from the seventies, this Hamilton Dateline is in excellent condition with barely a blemish to the dial or case. Certainly, a unique looking watch, the large elliptical-shaped case encapsulates a very handsome and somewhat 3-dimensional dial with a central black dial giving way to an Ivory outer ring and finishing with a dipped chapter ring with red minute markers to complement the pop of colour on the central second's hand. The applied hour markers look well with the matching hands and a framed date aperture at 6 o'clock completes the picture. The elliptical case really is this watch's crowning glory offering a very individual aesthetic with generous dimensions and completed with a Hamilton signed crown.

Given this iteration was only manufactured for one year, we can assume it wasn't so popular at the time, however with so few having been produced and the number of surviving examples on the market, especially in such good condition, being relatively few, this unusual Hamilton has now become rather collectable and certainly, any vintage collector would recognise the merit in owning such a piece.
