British Army Issued CWC Quartz W10/6645-99 Circa 2005

By the late 70s, the previous supplier of watches to the MOD, Hamilton, was struggling due to the Quartz crisis and pulled out of supplying military watches. An enterprising employee of Hamilton (Ray Mellor), recognised there was still a demand from the MoD for these watches and he established CWC (Cabot Watch Company) to meet it, and essentially pick up where Hamilton left off.

Using the same components and Swiss suppliers as Hamilton, CWC began supplying pretty much the same watch as the Hamilton W10 with CWC replacing the Hamilton signature. CWC would go on to become one of the most famous suppliers of British military watches.

This quartz watch was produced in 2005 for the British army and is part of a long line of W10 watches that have been in production since the 1980s. These watches are highly functional and reliable for use in the field but also great for everyday wear and look a treat on the wrist.

The brushed-finished stainless case is in very good condition with only light blemishes. The CWC signature, T for Tritium and Quartz denotation complete a nice black dial which is encapsulated underneath shatterproof Plexiglas. There are some signs of wear to the crystal, but nothing we wouldn't expect to see. The lume on the hour plots and hands has aged to a beautiful pale vanilla colour. This watch is in nice shape and benefits from a recently replaced battery. A fantastic vintage military piece and worthy of any collection.
