A 1960s Omega Seamaster Model Reference 14389-8 in gold capped case with calibre 268 manual wind movement.
The Omega Seamaster is the longest-running line in the current Omega catalogue. It first appeared in 1948 (Omega’s centennial year) and boasts one of the most diverse range of watches housed within a single collection of any brand. The watch on offer here is from the late 1950’s and is a reference 14389-8 featuring the well-respected 268 calibre Omega movement. The Seamaster model has been adapted for every purpose in life, from a dress watch variant to a divers watch, there is a Seamaster out there for every occasion and the present watch certainly matches upto that mantle.
With its wonderful tropical dial and classy 12,3 & 9 Arabic indices, this piece further solidifies Omega’s position at the top end of the market for watches. The sub seconds dial has a minimalist design which doesn’t take away from the proportions of the dial design and the 'sword' hands finish off a simple and elegant dial. The case is a classic example of a watch made for purpose. The robust lugs but thin bezel sets the stage for a classy appeal but with substance and class. The rounded crown finishes the case off nicely and overall creates for an interesting example of this reference. No wonder the Seamaster is the model of choice for James Bond 007.
What's On Offer
The original Omega signed dial has taken on a rich tone which adds warmth and character to it and is highly desirable among collectors and fans of Omega alike. The Seamaster logo having the more pleasing 'coat hanger S' font style which we love! Paired with a leather or nato strap, the watch really sits wonderfully on the wrist and will always remain timeless in design and be a watch in demand for generations to come.
This particular example has a discretely engraved case back “GK.ES 1961” which although to some is only a small detail, we believe adds that slight additional perk to this particular timepiece. No doubt another piece of wrist art that has an interesting and eventful background. Team this detail with the tropical dial and you are onto a really good thing.
The watch on offer was very recently serviced by our watchmaker so should run and function extremely well and for your piece of mind we will give you a 12 month guarantee with the watch!
