Omega Seamaster 120 Automatic - Black Dial and Bezel - Model Ref: 166.027 - c.1968
A Very Collectible Omega Seamaster 120 Automatic with Rich Black Dial and Black Bezel Ref Number: 166.027, Issued in c.1968.
The Seamaster is the longest-running product line still produced by Omega. It was introduced in 1948 and was loosely based upon designs made for the British Royal Navy towards the end of World War II. The original Seamaster's key feature was an O-ring gasket used to provide its waterproof seal.
Omega has a long affinity with dive watches and has produced some of the most iconic references which have certainly stood the test of time.
The Seamaster 120 made its debut in 1966 and was in essence the baby brother of the Seamaster 300. The 120 retained much of the same DNA as the 300, however, it was smaller and more attainable in monetary terms than the larger reference. Notably, the 120 is the first of the Omega dive watches to have a date display, one year after the introduction of the Seamaster 120 date, the upmarket Seamaster 300 would also become available with this function.
What’s On Offer
A nice example of the Seamaster 120 with a rich black dial, stick hands with subtle inserts, central seconds hand, and date aperture at 3 o'clock. Applied faceted baton hour indices at 6, 9, and 12 o'clock look well along with the applied Omega emblem. The bezel and case are in great condition and only show light signs of regular wear, remarkable for a watch of this age. There is a small crack on the glass between 12 and 1 o'clock but we have decided not replace this, but should you prefer it done then we can do this at point of sale and at no additional cost but the choice is entirely yours!
The pip appears to have been replaced at some point with what could be a diamond, very unusual and we have chosen to leave this as it is but we are pretty certain it can either be replaced or taken out altogether without damaging the otherwise, great bezel - we can only speculate as we haven't had the stone inspected/tested, however, you could end up with a little bonus there! The caseback is of course engraved with the Hippocampus which is synonymous with the Seamaster references and the original crown is signed Omega as one would expect. The watch is paired with a replacement black leather strap with a pin buckle.
The watch was serviced recently and therefore runs very well and comes with a 12-month warranty from VWS.
