The Constellation was released in 1952 and was named in honour of the Constellation jet that flew during World War 2. Available in steel, yellow gold and rose gold as well as three grades of finishing (Standard, Deluxe and Grand Luxe), the Constellation was Omega's flagship watch from the very beginning. By the mid-1960s, the pie-pan dial slowly gave way to flat dials and more interesting shapes and sizes for the case. In fact, the first integrated bracelet/case made its debut in 1969. These streamlined watches, presented in both his and her format, were touted as the “first watches in the world to be equipped with bracelets truly integrated with the case… a system invented in 1964 by Pierre Moinat” and protected by a patent, with the Reference BA 768.0803 as ladies’ watch and BA 368.0847 as gents’ model.

Despite design changes, the Constellation was still the home for Omega's high-end precision movements and in the 1970's a Constellation became the world's most accurate wristwatch. The Megaquartz f2.4 MHz was a hulking steel mass that debuted at the 1970 Basel Fair and it was the first Constellation to have a quartz movement inside. The present watch featuring the eye catching “TV” style case set the scene for a really striking timepiece with its brushed steel dial, baton indices, classic pencil hands and date window at 3 o’clock. The integrated 8270 Omega bracelet wraps wonderfully around the wrist with a taper towards the clasp which is finished with the Omega logo, the crown again features the brands logo.

The case back is finished with a medallion featuring the Observatory of Geneva crowned by a constellation of eight stars. The image of the observatory was designed to evoke Omega’s exploits in chronometry and its world precision records set in 1933 and 1936 at Kew-Teddington. The edge of the case curves nicely to meet the integrated bracelet which in turn means the watch sits on the wrist with a presence but wouldn’t feel too overwhelming on ones wrist or snag on a jumper. The condition of the watch remains in fantastic shape and is all set to settle nicely into an already established collection or further enhance your collection. The watch on offer has a power reserve of 42 hours thanks to the calibre 1001 automatic COSC Chronometer-Certified movement beating inside and the 33mm steel case and is topped with a plexiglass which exudes the vintage feel of this variant of the Constellation which still remains one of Omega’s most popular models.
