Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, starting with the production of pocket watches. Their main goal was to create accurate, affordable timepieces. In 1914, during World War I, Hamilton became an official supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces and shifted from making pocket watches to wristwatches for better convenience. In 1926, Admiral Richard E. Byrd became the first aviator to reach the North Pole, using a Hamilton watch to time his 15-hour, 57-minute flight around the pole. When the U.S. entered World War II, Hamilton stopped making watches for consumers to focus on supplying the military. They produced over one million timepieces, including wristwatches and marine chronometers, and earned an Army-Navy E award for excellence in manufacturing.

This is a 2022 Hamilton Aviation Automatic watch with a 43mm black aluminium cushion-shaped case. The case fits comfortably on your wrist, with tapered lugs and a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm. It’s 13mm thick, giving it a bold look. On the right side, at 2 o’clock, there's a recessed crown to rotate the inner bezel, and at 4 o’clock, another recessed signed crown is on the case. The watch has a flat sapphire crystal over a black dial, with a rotating 60-minute chapter ring and 24-hour numerals on a silver ring below. The minute track has lume plots at the hours, and SuperLumiNova-coated Arabic numerals mark the hours. There’s a date window at 3 o’clock. The hands are syringe-shaped and also coated in SuperLumiNova, with a sweeping second hand. The text is neatly printed at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. On the back, there’s a screwed-down exhibition case back showing the automatic Hamilton H-10 movement, which has 25 jewels and beats at 21,600 times per hour. This movement is based on the ETA C07.611 and features a skeletonized rotor. The watch comes with a black NATO strap with a signed buckle, along with its Hamilton box and booklet.
