British Military Issued in WWII Record "Dirty Dozen" Soldiers Watch

Known as the “Dirty Dozen” these famous watches were the first purpose-built military watches ever made. Delivered between 1944 & 1945, the “Dozen” comprised 12 manufacturers who produced around 150,000 watches for the war effort. Also known as WWW watches which stand simply for “Watch Wrist Waterproof”, these watches were built for action and to stand the vigour of war and the “Dozen” certainly did the job. Of the circa 150,000 pieces made, around 25,000 were made by Record which makes them joint top with Omega for the largest quantity made.

What's on Offer

This is a nice example of a Record Dirty Dozen which was once issued to a soldier of the British military during WWII. Aged hour plots and hands with original lume give this watch a really rugged look. The Arabic numerals have become faded with time but the recessed seconds dial at 6 o'clock has remained intact.  Unlike some of the dirty dozen watches which were made from steel, Record mid-cases were manufactured from chrome-plated brass which meant they were easily scraped and banged during use revealing the brass beneath the plating. We think this adds an awesome look to a once purpose-built field watch and adds reminiscence of its history. The watch is running well and fully functional but has not been serviced, these circumstances are reflected in the price and if you would like it to be serviced prior to purchasing it we'd be happy to do that for an additional fee.
