Lemania was a Swiss manufacturer of clocks, watches and movements. It was founded in 1884 by Alfred Lugrin (1858-1920), who had trained at Jaeger Le Coultre.  The Lemania name was adopted when he and his nephew renamed the company in 1928. Their speciality was complications, chronograph movements, long-running movements, repeaters, etc.

Lemania produced both watches - including one of the famous 'Dirty Dozen' family - and clocks for the British military, among other armed forces, during the 1940s through to the 1970s. Nero is branding that Lemania used for industry timepieces such as factory and military timers.

What’s On Offer

This is a nice example of a piece of genuine military history in the shape of this Lemania aircraft cockpit clock that has survived remarkably well since its production in 1958. In original condition and boasting military markings 6A/4339520 1830/58 to the reverse. This is an 8-day clock - the term refers to a clock with a mechanical movement that must be wound once per week. This type of clock would be found in the cockpits of various military planes. The dial design is very simple, stark black with bold white quarter Arabic numerals and an outer minute track, meaty sword hands and a central seconds, all enabling good visibility. The movement is marked - 3231360 and the inside case is marked INCA 1515903. Running well and keeping good time having just been serviced by our master watch and clockmaker, this would make a unique desk or dashboard clock.

Although I haven't managed to absolutely confirm which plane/s these clocks were fitted in, this clock does have some military service documentation in the shape of a MoD Form 731, (see images), which refers to it as being 'ex bulldog'.
