IWC was founded in 1868 by American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The company aimed to combine American engineering techniques with Swiss craftsmanship. Over the years, IWC has established itself as a prominent luxury watch brand, recognized for its innovative designs and precision engineering.

While IWC uses movements from reputable Swiss manufacturers like ETA and Sellita in some models, they also produce their own in-house movements. Their in-house calibres, like the 89000 series, are highly regarded for their craftsmanship and reliability.

An automatic watch keeps running only because of the movements of the wearer’s arm. For 60 years now, the power driving IWC’s automatic in-house movements has come from the pawl-winding system developed by Albert Pellaton. The rotor as the most freely moving part is subject to the greatest stresses and strains created by the movements of the arm and is mounted on a sprung plate - an ingenious form of shock resistance.

This IWC Pellaton is in beautiful preowned condition with a dial that has been subject to the natural ageing process - a joy for those of you who love patina, it has taken on a slightly pink tinge. The dial boasts applied polished metal hour indexes with luminous pips and stylish Dauphine hands plus a central seconds hand on the central opinion. At 33mm this watch is fairly slight proportion-wise, however, it wears larger on the wrist and what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in character. This watch is signed IWC on the inside of the case back and is powered by the C852 movement which has a power reserve of 42 hours. This watch is paired with an original IWC strap in black with a contrast stitch - a very stylish piece.
