The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date made its debut in the mid-1950s. For some context, Rolex released the Datejust in 1945 and it came equipped with a 36mm case whilst the Date sported a slightly smaller 34mm case size. Whilst Rolex produces various sizes within the Datejust collection, the brand's 34mm date-displaying watch is known simply as the Rolex Date.
