A Charming Omega Dress Watch 2540-8 from c.1950 with a Gold Coloured Refinished Dial with Crosshair Detail, Teardrop Hour Markers and Dauphine Hands

Omega, a prestigious Swiss watchmaker founded in 1848, has long been revered for its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless design. Over the decades, Omega's dress watches have become synonymous with elegance and precision. In the early 20th century, Omega solidified its reputation with pocket watches that were masterpieces of horological art. As wristwatches gained popularity, Omega adapted seamlessly, introducing elegant timepieces that combined style with functionality.

What's on Offer

This Omega dress watch is rather charming despite the fact we believe it has a historically refinished dial - this is definitely a historic dial change and is likely to have been done many years ago given the aged condition. It is certainly a unique watch - you are unlikely to find anything the same. The dial furniture is rather nice and comprises faceted teardrop hour markers which alternate with Arabic numerals. There is a cross-hair sub-seconds counter at 6 o'clock and stylish Dauphine hands glide around the dial. There are some blemishes to the outer perimeter of the dial which you will note on the images, this isn't unusual for a watch of this age. The case is polished stainless steel and is in good shape. This reference (2540-8) was introduced by Omega in 1946 and formed part of the International Collection at the time. It is powered by the manual calibre 265.

This watch is offered for sale as seen, as the watches service history is unknown and we are selling it on behalf of a watch collector's family who have asked us to help sell an entire collection. As there are quite a few watches to dispose of, the clients do not wish to spend unnecessary money on servicing each watch before it is sold so we have priced the watches to reflect it being sold un-serviced and without a warranty but it can be arranged with our watchmaker at an additional cost if you wish. Once you have made the purchase please add a note when placing it in your basket and we will contact you to discuss this. Once serviced the watch will be given a 12-month warranty.
