Another must-have watch for the discerning collector, no vintage collection is really complete without the 1016 Explorer, an iconic reference that has stood the test of time and remained popular even though its manufacture ceased in 1989!

This 1967 example is in superb condition, the dial is rich black and the original lume is not only present, but it has aged beautifully to a golden pumpkin colour - the holy grail! Lume is also still present on the iconic Mercedes hands whilst the Rolex emblem and Explorer signature pop brilliantly in bright white. You may have noticed that this particular dial is also affectionately referred to as the 'Frog Foot' dial as it bears a Rolex coronet that resembles the foot of a frog at 12 o'clock - as I have discovered over the years I have been writing about watches, the devil is in the detail and only the keenest of eyes will notice these minute nuances.

The stainless steel case looks well as does the smooth bezel which is synonymous with the Explorer. At 36mm, it's a nice size, not overly meaty and certainly not ostentatious but still a nice presence on the wrist. 

Paired with a high-quality tan leather strap which brings out the warmth of the dial perfectly, this is a beautiful watch and we are delighted to offer it for sale in such fine condition. If I didn't already have a 1016 in my collection then this one wouldn't be for sale, as I love it!
