A Charming and Very Collectable Rolex GS Mark II Military Pocket Watch In Original Condition With Original Military Engravings

GS (General Service) watches were made by a variety of manufacturers but tended to be of a similar pattern which was specified by the British authorities. The back of these watches are marked with an individual military serial number sometimes preceded by a letter which is thought to denote the stores they were issued from.

What’s On Offer

A joy for the military enthusiasts among us, this Rolex GS Mark II pocket watch has been well preserved over the years and bears all the hallmarks one would expect from a military watch - the bold Arabic numerals, recessed subs seconds dial at 6 o'clock and the broad arrow denoting it as property of the MoD. The original lume is still present on 3, 9 and 12 as well as the blued steel hands and has aged nicely.

The silver dial (which hasn't photographed particularly well in all honesty - it really is silver) is rather charming with a spattering of light patina. The caseback of the watch is engraved with original military markings that read: A.20624 G.S.MK.II along with the military arrow.

The watch is in well-preserved vintage condition so there are signs of wear but nothing of any concern. It is running well and looks wonderful in the flesh - a really charismatic piece of military history that would make a beautiful gift for any military or vintage enthusiast! These pieces are becoming rarer every year so it's s good time to purchase and acquire a stunning keepsake that can be passed down through generations.

NB: I have come across a slight conundrum with this piece, the calibre seems to be marked as a 596, however, when studying and comparing this to other examples of which the majority have a 540 movement, the movement in this watch appears to be exactly the same as the 540 and infact I cannot find evidence of a 596 appropriate for this piece.....do contact us if you can shed any light as to why it would be marked 596 when it is clearly a 540!
