Smiths W10 Military Issued Watch - 1968 - Original Military Engravings
A Collectable Smiths Military Issued W10 Watch With Nicely Aged Lume and Original Military Engravings - 1968
Smiths' watches have been in and amongst the action since being founded by Samuel Smith in 1851. From being regularly seen in cockpits to dashboards, their precision has always been of the highest order. It wasn’t until the end of World War II that the firm began producing wristwatches. Throughout the '50s, '60s & '70s Smiths held contracts to supply watches to the Ministry of Defence with the W10 being one of the most famous and recognisable.
What’s On Offer
This 1968 Smiths W10 is in fantastic shape, boasting a stark black dial with bold Arabic numerals, an outer minute track and original pencil hands. The hour plots maintain their original lume which has aged to a beautiful caramel colour and their is still some original lume in the hands too. The broad arrow is at 6 o'clock which denotes the watch as the property of the MoD and the dial is completed by a tritium marking and the Smiths signature. The dial is encapsulated underneath shatterproof Plexiglas which is also in nice condition. The stainless steel case has only minor signs of light wear and bears its original military markings which read: W10/6645-99-96-4045 2493/68.
A very collectable piece, these watches are becoming rarer by the year, it's a great time to snap one up! It is also still absolutely wearable and is running well!
