Excellent Smiths W10 Manual Wound Military Watch with Engravings W10/6645-99-961-4045 0305/68

Smiths Watches is a historic British watchmaking company with a legacy that dates back to the 19th century. The company was originally established by Samuel Smith in London in 1851 as a clock and watch trading business. Over the years, Smiths expanded its operations and became a prominent player in the watchmaking industry.

One of the notable periods in Smiths Watches' history is its involvement in the production of military watches. During World War II, Smiths, along with other British watchmakers, contributed to the war effort by manufacturing timepieces for the military. While Smiths was not part of the original "Dirty Dozen" consortium, it did produce watches for military use.

In the post-war era, Smiths gained recognition for its wristwatches, including the Everest and the Deluxe models. The Everest model, in particular, gained popularity as it was worn by Sir Edmund Hillary during the first successful ascent of Mount Everest in 1953.

What’s on Offer

The exceptional part of this watch is the pristine dial, the once-white lume plots have weathered to a lovely cream colour which compliments the black dial and white writing perfectly. You can also find the Smiths logo and military arrow marking displayed clearly. The Lumed pencil hands on this watch are also in remarkable condition.

This watch houses a 60466E movement which keeps good time and appears to be losing only a few seconds each day when we have tested it.

Examining the stainless case it sits at a snug 35mm and looks magnificent for its age. The original factory shine is still very present, you will only find light blemishes and scratches including the plexiglass. The military engravings on the caseback are still very readable.

This watch is offered for sale as seen as we have not serviced it, as we are selling it on behalf of a watch collector's family who has asked us to help sell an entire collection - this is reflected in the price, still, it is a very nice watch with genuine military significance. The watch however can be serviced by our watchmaker, once you have made the purchase please add a note when placing it in your basket and we will contact you to discuss this. Once serviced the watch will be given a 12-month warranty.
