A Very Collectable Omega Dirty Dozen Military Issued WWW Soldiers Watch in Original Condition with Nicely Aged Lume and Military Engravings, c.1945

During 1944 and 1945, twelve watchmakers (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, JLC, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex) produced a total of approximately 150,000 of these almost identical timepieces. As these watches became highly sought after by collectors over the ensuing decades, they became known as "The Dirty Dozen" - earning this nickname from the 1964 war film of the same moniker. Members of this exclusive club are now in constant demand as few remain in good and original condition, and as production volumes differed widely across the 12 wartime manufacturers. Omega made approximately 25000 of these watches.

What’s On Offer

This is a fantastic example of the Omega member of the Dirty Dozen family which becoming increasingly rare and therefore increasingly sought-after. This is a very well-preserved watch given its age and the fact it is a tool watch built for purpose and has more than likely seen live action during WW2. The dial is rich black and boasts all the hallmarks we expect to see from the Dirty Dozen collection including bold white Arabic numerals, a recessed subdial at 6 o'clock, an outer minute track and the military arrow denoting it as the property of the MoD. The hour plots and sword hands still boast their original lume and it has aged to a stunning colour and the caseback is engraved with original military markings including the arrow once again. The case and lugs are still sharp and in nice shape, there are only minor signs of general wear and the watch is running well and is ready to be worn. This is a very collectable watch, especially for those seeking to complete the full dozen, so prices are creeping up as availability (in this type of excellent condition) dwindles. The watch is sold with service/guarantee papers dated to 1962 - a nice bit of documentation that the watch has been well taken care of since it retired from active duty!
